I'm Getting Old...

Wow. I just realized something tonight. I actually am aging. I mean, I look around at everyone else I know and I can see them getting older. Friends I have known for years are going gray or even bald. I am being asked to perform marriages of "kids" that I had in Youth Group (years ago!). But I still feel the same. I can take the stairs two at a time. I can still beat up the guys at Youth Group. And I can play video games like a teenager - and beat most of them too. Everyone else is getting older, but I have remained the same. But my father-in-law made a statement to me tonight that made my heart sink to my feet. Francine and I have been married for almost 10 years. We started dating 12 years ago this month. When I met him, I was 18 years old and he had just turned 40. Now, 12 years later I am 31 - 9 years away from 40! He seemed so old when I met him. Now 40 is barely around the corner for me and I still feel like a kid (except for those days when my sciatic nerve acts up...). I'd better face it. I am getting older along with everybody else. But it doesn't look as bad as it once did. Years ago 30 looked ancient, but now that I have hit that milestone, 40 doesn't even look too bad. Heck, my Dad is almost 70 and he is in great shape (the guy even rollerblades!). So I have come to the conclusion that as long as the Lord gives me breath, I am going to keep aging. The way I deal with it is my decision. I can complain about the aches and pains and fade away thinking I am useless, or I can use the God given gifts and abilities that I have to live for Him till the day I die. I am actually looking forward to getting a few more gray hairs so I can look a little wiser. I need all the help I can get!

If the gray hairs don't do it, the bifocals should.
